Metro Detroit’s Comic City
I’ve been visiting Comic City since they opened when I was a kid.
Comic City has always been a cornerstone comic book shop that was warm and welcoming. You will never find any gatekeeping in their stores. They treat everyone with respect and have a wonderful kids section. In 2014 I was inspired to design a logo for them and reach out to see if they would be interested in working with me to help them launch a new website. Comic Books were influencing a lot of my designs at the time because of their use of layout. Comics always find out-of-the-box solutions and unique ways to tell a story.

Refreshing the Logo Was a Lot of Fun
I was willing to do this project for whatever they wanted to offer. We worked out a deal that involved store credit and I was thrilled. Bob Smethers and his daughter Stephanie were wonderful to work with. An inspiration for what it means to own a family business. It means a lot to me being able to bring my daughter to the comic shop. She wasn’t even born when I did the original logo and site! I take a lot of pride seeing the logo on t-shirts, as decals and in email newsletters.
Comic City moved over to a new theme during the pandemic and the original site is no longer live, but the logo lives on!
There is something special about having a neighborhood comic book store. I take a lot of pride in being part of this one.
